Polymers have many applications in oil industry, mainly:
1. lmprove oil recovery (also called "third oil recovery"). lt is toinject an aqueous polymer solution into the oil layer to displaceunderground crude oil. The molecular weight of the polymer isgenerally high and has a strong viscosity-increasing abilityCommon medium anionic polymers are commonly used. The FAseries A2015 and A3018 produced by Gerun are speciapolymers for tertiary oil recovery.
2. In the drilling mud, the polymer functions to regulate rheology, reduce water, dilute bentonite, and control the swelling of water-sensitive clay.Commonly used are anionic polymersDifferent molecular weights and anions are selected dependingon their effects.
3. Oil well water blocking and water injection well profile controlAn aqueous polymer solution is injected into the formation, anda crosslinking reaction occurs in the formation to form a gel. Inorder to reduce the permeability of the high water-bearingformation, the purpose of reducing the water outflow of the welor improving the water absorption profile of the injection well isachieved.
4. Treatment of oily sewage produced by oil wells. The polymerhelps and accelerates the separation of the oil-water mixture by air flotation or centrifugation, allowing the purified water to beused for reinjection or discharge.
5. Medium anionic and high molecular weight polymers canreduce the frictional resistance of water flowing through thepipeline. Therefore, in the case where the diameter and length othe pipe are constant, adding a small amount of polymer to thewater can increase the water supply of the pipe or reduce thepower consumption of the drain pump.
